Issuing Treatment Guidelines
The European guidelines for treatment of HIV-infected adults in Europe are produced by EACS and are regularly updated by our teams of specialists.
The importance and success of the EACS guidelines are demonstrated by their widespread dissemination.
Over 15,000 copies of Version 5, presented at the 12th European AIDS Conference in Cologne in November 2009, have been distributed both at international and regional conferences and through other means in individual countries.

Education and Training of HIV Physicians
EACS provides scholarships to young physicians through four educational programmes:
1) The “Medical Exchange Programme for HIV Physicians” offers up to one year of training in one of the 16 EACS-affiliated clinical centres across Europe.
2) The “European Advanced HIV Course”, held every year in France in September, is intended for physicians managing HIV and with a basic knowledge of the disease. The course is divided between plenary sessions followed by a series of related workshops and clinical discussions. The Advanced HIV Course is accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME), www.uems.net, to provide CME credits for medical specialists.
3) The “ECReCO” (European Clinical Research Course): A 3-day course to train physicians in the basics of clinical research and to write clinical research programmes, protocols and abstracts. The first course was held in Zagreb from June 15-17, 2011. It was attended by 32 medical doctors from 15 different countries and moderated by a team of statisticians and clinicians.
4) The “Eastern Europe Programme”: A training programme geared at Russian-speaking physicians. It aims to provide instruction on how best to set up and organise appropriate care for HIV-infected persons. This programme is run out of the Hospital of Infectious Diseases AIDS Diagnosis and Therapy Center in Warsaw, Poland.
